Usage Notes
The Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF) tank capacity is roughly 4.9 gallons. When the DEF tank level is close to empty, a warning light will be triggered and the ECM will start to limit speeds over 65 mph. The DEF is normally filled during your routine oil changes.
The DEF is made of of one part synthetic urea and two parts deionized water. This mixture is injected into the Selective Catalyst Reduction (SCR) and mixed with the exhaust gas to reduce the NOX levels released by the vehicle.
